Tomás

Two-year-old Tomás is the youngest son of Pedro and Julia’s four young children. When Tomás was born in September 2019, the family was advised to see a cardiologist, and Tomás was confirmed to have a ventricular septal defect, requiring urgent heart surgery for the young patient. The parents share that on numerous occasions, Tomás has become weak and hospitalized. As the family is in housing debt, and the father, Pedro, provides the only source of income for the family, they have faced difficulties in covering the medical expenses of Tomás and were very concerned about the costs of Tomás’s imminent surgery. Despite these worries, the family remains resilient in their faith. Julia expresses how her son’s condition has impacted her, “As parents, we see his fatigue, and it worries us… Together, with my husband, we pray so that my child can have surgery. We trust in the Lord that everything will work out.”

Fortunately, Tomás was able to receive heart surgery on March 22, 2021 at Incor Clinic in Santa Cruz. With the support and help of Puente de Solidaridad, the Goff Gift Fund, Dr. Barrientos and Dr. Jaldin, and the family’s church, Tomás’s procedure was made possible, and he was discharged shortly after six days later. He is currently in stable condition under the care of his loving family, and his mother shares, “We are also very grateful for this help that you provide to the children who need it. God bless you.”
