Tamara

Tamara lives with her parents and two siblings in Quillacollo, Bolivia. Her father works hard to support the family on his salary as a secretary at a transportation company. This includes finding a way to pay for the health expenses for baby Tamara who was born with a congenital heart defect.

Since birth, Tamara has suffered from continual colds and fevers. She fails to gain weight and struggles to drink milk and breathe regularly.

Tamara’s family came to Puente de Solidaridad for help in finding a way to pay for open-heart surgery to repair Tamara’s Atrial Septal Defect. After months of concern and stress over Tamara’s health and their economic situation, Tamara’s parents were relieved to receive the promise of financial aid through the Children’s Heart Surgery Program.

On March 13, Dr. Carlos Brockmann performed the open-heart surgery at the Belga Hospital in Cochabamba. Many thanks to Dr. Brockmann, Puente de Solidaridad, and Dharma Social Projects for making this life saving surgery a reality. Thanks also to Tamara’s family for working so diligently to find help for their baby girl. Tamara was released from the hospital less than one week after surgery and is recovering at home with her loving parents and siblings.
