Sindi

When she just was a toddler, Sindi’s parents noticed her fingernails appeared blue and strangely curved. The pediatrician referred Sindi to a cardiologist for evaluation. Soon after, Cindi underwent her first surgical intervention to attempt to repair a malformed connection between her heart and lungs. Unfortunately, the surgery failed to resolve the problem. In early 2025 her cardiologist told Cindi’s family that she needed another procedure.

Cindi’s father, Richard, owns a small clothing store that brings in between $300-350 dollars a month. With that, Richard covers all the expenses for a three-generation household which includes his parents and infant son. It had been a struggle to cover the cost of Cindi’s first surgery two years ago. Now with a second child in the home, Richard saw no way to afford another operation until he was referred to Puente de Solidaridad for support through the Solidarity Bridge Kid’s Heart Program.

Cindi recovered well from her second surgery. The family is hopeful that their little girl will finally be able to breathe easily and enjoy a normal childhood.
