Paullu

Puente de Solidaridad learned of three-year-old Paullu’s congenital heart disease during a detection campaign in the city of Tarija. An echocardiogram showed that Paullu needed surgery as soon as possible. Young Paullu, who had been presenting difficulties with breathing, was diagnosed with mitral stenosis - a narrowing of the heart’s mitral valve resulting in abnormal blood flow.

Paullu’s mother was committed to helping her son recover, but she was concerned about the financial burden that his surgery would cause. Paullu and his mother have been living with his grandparents since Paullu’s father passed away. Paullu’s mother is unable to work because she is devoted to Paullu’s full-time care. She expressed gratitude for her parents’ support, “I know that my parents would even sell their house and all their goods to see him healthy, but it is my responsibility and that is why I decided to seek help from the Puente de Solidaridad Foundation. The only thing I want is for my little one to run around like any child his age.”

On November 15, 2021, Paullu received heart surgery with the support and assistance of the Prosalud Clinic, Puente de Solidaridad, and the Goff Gift Fund. He was discharged five days later, and the young child is currently in stable condition.
