Mona

Mona lives with her brother, sister, and parents in a mud-walled home in Valle Grande, Bolivia. They are subsistence farmers, generating only a small amount of cash for school fees, buses, and medicine while relying on their crops and livestock for food. Mona was diagnosed with heart problems soon after birth. Over the next years, she was progressively referred up the ranks of the public health system, until it became clear she needed surgery only available at a specialized private hospital. The INCOR referred the family to Puente de Solidaridad to sign Mona up for care through the Heart-to-Heart campaign. She is now back home, recovering well from surgery.
