Martin
Martin was born 11 weeks premature in September 2023. He spent his first 45 days in an incubator. He is still tiny for his age, but he has a good appetite and seems determined to live! During his long hospital stay, Martin was diagnosed with a small defect in his heart. After his discharge, his mom, Tania, began regular trips from the family’s home in Trinidad, Beni, to Santa Cruz so that heart specialists could closely monitor his condition. After his first birthday, his doctor determined that Martin was strong enough for surgery. A fine catheter was used to place a patch in his miniature-sized heart, avoiding the need for open heart surgery. Martin left the hospital the next day and continues to recover and grow at home.
