Luz

Twenty-year-old Luz was diagnosed with a heart disease that required urgent surgical care. Unfortunately, Luz’s family faces financial difficulties that have created concerns surrounding the costs and expenses of her medical bills. Luz and her five siblings live together with their parents. The family depends on their father’s income as a welder’s assistant and their mother who sells catalog products. The family’s finances are only enough to support their basic needs, in terms of food and rent.

Despite the financial struggles that Luz’s family faces, her siblings and parents have remained dedicated in finding the resources and funds necessary for Luz’s surgery. Her family is committed to protecting and improving Luz’s life. During the pandemic Luz’s family was exposed to COVID-19. causing further concerns about Luz’s safety and health. Luz shared, “There are days when I feel like I'm going to pass out. I'm short of breath. I can't breathe, especially at night. Recently my whole family was sick with COVID, and they had to recover.”

Fortunately, on October 25, 2021, Luz received the cardiac surgery she needed with the support and assistance of Herzverein, Solidarity Bridge, and the Goff Gift Fund. She was discharged five days later. Luz and her family are ever thankful to these organizations. With improvements in her condition, Luz hopes to be able to resume her university studies soon.
