Kalvin
Kalvin spent eight months in the hospital as a newborn, listless and struggling to breathe on his own. He was eventually discharged to the home he shares with his brother, just one year older than him, and his parents. But his continued health problems put a strain on the family, and his father eventually moved out, leaving Kalvin’s mom, Sandra, to sustain and care for her two boys on her own. When the time came, Sandra enrolled Kalvin in pre-kindergarten, but he refused to go because he couldn’t keep up with the other kids.
Since undergoing a catheterization procedure, Sandra reports Kalvin is attending kindergarten and becoming more active, “like normal”.
