Isaac

Isaac was just one year old when his mother died. Since that time, he has been raised by his father and uncle in a Mennonite community in Tarija, Bolivia. Both his father and uncle work as farmers to cover expenses. In September of 2021, Puente de Solidaridad conducted a diagnostic heart campaign in Tarija. Isaac’s family learned of the program and approached the organization.

Isaac’s uncle shared, “When my nephew was one year old, his mother passed away from the same cardiological problem that he has. He was frail. We brought him to the doctor who told us that he would need surgery. We did not have the financial resources during this time. Now we see that he does not play and is more tired. We want him to be healthy. This is why we are looking again for medical help. As a family, we are united. We want him to be able to have this surgery. We don't want him to suffer the same fate as his mother. We are so very grateful for all the support that you have provided us.”

Fortunately, Isaac was determined to be eligible for assistance through the Pediatric Heart Surgery Program. Bolivian cardiac surgeons Dr. Barrientos and Dr. Jaldin performed surgery to repair Isaac’s tetralogy of Fallot in order to improve blood flow to his lungs. The surgery was successful, and Isaac will continue follow-up care with his cardiologists. Isaac’s father and uncle expressed their gratitude to Puente de Solidaridad, to medical team at the Incor Clinic, and to all the donors who made this surgery possible.
