Diana Perez
Diana was a 7 month old baby born to young parents who were going to the public university (it is free if you can get in). The birth of their child with such a serious heart problem derailed their educational plans. The family lived with the maternal grandparents near the city of Cochabamba in Bolivia.
Diana was born with a very complex congenital heart problem. Even the least complex of open heart surgeries is a risk for the patient. When the underlying problem is complex, the risk increases. In the case of Diana, Dr. Benjo Gareca and his team were unable to save her.
