There was no way Juan Carlos and Luna could ever afford the much-needed surgery for their one-year-old son, Bruno, who suffers from Total Anomalous Pulmonary Veinous Return (TAPVR.) This is a severe cardiopulmonary condition that could set Bruno up for a weak health trajectory for the rest of his life. Bruno’s parents worry about him continuously.

In seeking medical care for their son, local Bolivian doctors made them aware of assistance that could be available to them through a program of cardiac surgery provided by Puente de Solidaridad A bright light in an otherwise dismal future for Bruno! They were full of hope that they might be recipients of such assistance.

Both parents work in the local market La Ramada selling clothing apparel making just enough money to provide for the basic necessities of their family. They live with Luna’s father and uncle who help with Bruno’s care while they are at work. It is a simple dwelling of three sleeping quarters, kitchen and bathroom shared by the five of them. Juan Carlos’s parents also live in the area but are not in a position to help.

Drs. Barrientos and Jaldin performed the complex surgery for one-year-old Bruno at the Incor Clinic in Santa Cruz. The infant remained in the hospital for one week after surgery. This one surgery changed the entire trajectory of baby Bruno’s life and that of his family. This would not have been possible without the resources and support from our generous donors, committed staff, and the talented Bolivian surgical teams who collaborate with these surgeries. A sincere thank you from Juan Carlos and Luna. Their worries have dissipated, and Bruno has a promising future.
