Alisson

Alisson and her three siblings live with their father, Wilson, in the town of Punata, Bolivia. Alisson was born with a heart defect that was only recently properly evaluated and diagnosed through a screening program supported by Puente de Solidaridad.

Following analysis of the results, the cardiology team recommended a Glenn procedure and tricuspid valve repair surgery. While Wilson worked extra hours to save money for Alisson’s heart surgery, Alisson’s 9-year-old sister Ariché developed a life-threatening case of peritonitis. The little money Wilson had set aside went to Ariché’s hospital bills.

In the meantime, Alisson refrained from strenuous activity to avoid straining her heart. By March 2022, doctors were concerned that Alisson’s treatment was becoming urgent. Wilson had almost no resources left to contribute, but with contributions from the Goff Gift fund and other supporters, Puente de Solidaridad arranged for Alisson to undergo surgery at the Santa Maria de Los Angeles Clinic in Cochabamba.

She spent six nights recovering in the hospital before returning to her home in Punata, where her siblings helped tend to her while she regained her strength. Wilson and the entire family are grateful for the financial, logistical, and spiritual support that have helped the family through a very difficult time.
