Alicia
Alicia, her 5-year-old brother, and their parents live in an aunt’s adobe home in the isolated town of Quirusillas, tucked amid forested mountains in central Bolivia, where Alicia’s dad raises fruit. Alicia has cerebral palsy and suffers epileptic seizures, which are currently well controlled with medication. She was also diagnosed with a PDA, which the Texas Children’s team was able to patch with a relatively simple catheterization procedure, requiring only one night in the hospital.
