Alfonso

On November 26, 2019, Salma and Osvaldo’s lives changed when their son Alfonso was born prematurely at thirty weeks. Their infant son was hospitalized after birth, presenting with a congenital heart problem that later resulted in pneumonia. Alfonso was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect - a hole in the young patient’s heart, requiring imminent heart surgery. Dedicated parents, Salma and Osvaldo were committed to doing everything in their power to improve the well-being and happiness of their infant son, but there were concerns surrounding the costs of Alfonso’s expensive surgery. The couple has been facing financial difficulties, as they have two other young children at home in addition to their newborn son. Because Salma stays home to care for the children, the family’s only source of income comes from Osvaldo’s job in pool maintenance.

Despite their financial difficulties, Salma and Osvaldo were committed to getting Alfonso the procedure he needed. They reached out to Puente de Solidaridad for assistance. With the support of Puente de Solidaridad, the Incor Clinic, and the Goff Gift Fund, Alfonso was able to receive the necessary surgery for his heart defect on November 22, 2021. He was discharged five days later, the day after his second birthday. Alfonso is currently healthy and in stable condition, and his parents are grateful for all the support, “Salma shared, “Thank God for institutions like you that provide this support. I want my child to be healthy so that he can lead a peaceful life. Thank you for all your support.”
